A Queensland child sex offender who allegedly fled the country on his boat to Thailand has been deported from the south-east Asian country and appeared in court in Perth.
Richard Carl Skrinjar, 57, was charged with failing to comply with travel restrictions imposed on him as a registered offender.
Australian Federal Police allege Skrinjar escaped on his boat in October last year without notifying Queensland Police.
He appeared in Perth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, a month after he was arrested by Thai police and a week after he was deported.
“We will continue to disrupt the movement of child sex offenders, protect vulnerable people and ensure those who breach their duties face justice,” Queensland Police Service Detective Superintendent Denzil Clark said.
Skrinjar remained in custody and could face up to five years in prison.
