The atmosphere was electric at the Spanish Club in Fitzroy after Spain’s goal. All the wait finally paid off. The crowd was roaring.
“Oé, oé, oé, oé,” the fans chanted as they jumped on the spot wearing Spanish flags. Chants of “Yo soy español, español” (I’m Spanish, Spanish) followed.
Finally, when the half-time whistle blows, the Fitzroy crowd explodes. Fans are standing on the table, jumping and hugging each other.
“World champions,” the fans roar. “World Champions”.
