‘Stressed’ Hongkonger Ceci Lee finishes outside the medals on the opening day of the World Cup

A “stressed” and sleep-deprived Ceci Lee Sze-wing failed to add to her collection of three UCI 2026 World Cup medals on Friday, coming home seventh in a relegation race on the opening day of the final leg in Malaysia.

The 24-year-old claimed bronze thanks to similar discipline at last month’s opening meet in Perth, and again when Hong Kong played the second match last week.

It is a measure of Lee’s mental and physical growth over the past two years that she was disappointed to be the 17th out of 23 starters eliminated, as Anita Yvonne Stenberg repeated her winning performance in Hong Kong seven days ago.

“Before the start, he was motivated but during the race when there was a lot of tension he did not work technically as he did last weekend,” Herve Dagorne, head coach of Hong Kong.

“He admitted he was a little stressed, and that he was competing not to be eliminated; not to win.”

Lee’s preparations for the three-day event in Nilai were hampered by a bad fall on his home track during his pursuit of the honors last Sunday.
