Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called for the resumption of “normal economic activity” in the Strait of Hormuz and called for a deceleration in the Middle East war, while speaking at a press conference in Brunei.
“Australia wants to see a de-escalation. We want to see talks between the United States and Iran return, and we want to see a resumption of normal economic activity which is very important to the world economy,” Albanese said.
“We all feel, of course, the consequences, as do countries around the world, in terms of distributional change and Australia has a lot to gain from engaging with our neighbors in this region,” Albanese said.
He said Brunei provided 9 percent of Australia’s diesel imports, and more than 11 percent of its fertilizer grade urea imports.
“We had the opportunity to talk directly about the possibility that there is also an increase in Australia receiving fertilizers especially from Brunei,” the prime minister said.
The prime minister will travel to Malaysia next.
