A series of explosions were heard near a military base housing US troops in northern Iraq and sirens sounded in Bahrain on Friday, hours after the US military said it had ended its 13th night of strikes against Iran.
The conflict flared up again last week, with the US attacking Iran while Tehran attacked ships in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US and allied assets in the region.
The strait, which is a key global energy supply route, has been at the center of the latest fighting since Iran’s attacks blocked the waterway, sending oil prices soaring around the world and triggering a major economic crisis.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels stepped up the pressure this week by targeting two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, threatening to cut off the region’s alternative oil route.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Friday that they targeted a data center in Bahrain belonging to US tech giant Amazon, state media reported.
The forces “targeted and destroyed the building of the intelligence data center of the American company Amazon, which plays a major role in completing information to the US military on the killing of children”, they said in a statement broadcast by state TV.
