The Hong Kong Jockey Club has strengthened its partnership with Guangzhou, as it prepares to start racing at Conghua Racecourse in October.
In a statement released on Saturday, the club said it will cooperate with the Mainland Municipal People’s Government to further develop the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Fish Industry Comprehensive Cooperation Zone.
Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of HKJC, said his organization is committed to “using Hong Kong’s internationally recognized expertise and experience in horse racing and equitation to support the development of the GBA as a major international hub for equitation and the equitation industry”.
With world-class racing set to take place in the inland arena following the first meeting on October 31, the agreement is also expected to promote the development of sports and industries surrounding the Greater Bay Area.
The summary of Guangzhou’s 15th five-year plan proposes to develop a deeper cooperation between the two sides, while the club has also submitted proposals for the first Hong Kong plan, which includes positioning the GBA as the center of the world’s horse industry.

According to the club’s statement, the leaders hope to establish the zone by 2030, and have set four areas of cooperation as part of the agreement.
