Roberto Losada will be in charge of Hong Kong’s two friendlies next month, “for sure”, but the interim head coach is in the dark about whether he will be given the job on a full-time basis.
The city team have been without a boss since Ashley Westwood left last November following a failed campaign to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup.
A former manager of Hong Kong Premier League club Eastern, Losada took charge of the friendlies for three months after Westwood’s departure, and was at the helm for the final Asian qualifier, a 2-1 defeat in India in March.
Since then he has had two interviews for the role, where the Hong Kong Chinese Football Association (HKFA) chiefs “asked a lot”.
Hong Kong is scheduled for two friendly matches next month. Their opponents are yet to be confirmed but they are set to play Mongolia at home, possibly at the Hong Kong Stadium if stadium renovations remove the Kai Tak Stadium, and an away game in Cambodia.
“I’ll be in charge in June, of course,” Losada said. “If a new coach comes, there won’t be enough time (to prepare).
“I’m just waiting for the decision. The process is over, and I don’t know when I’ll hear.”
