PS Svarva Floor Lamp
“Some things I did myself, like this The lamp of Svarva we designed with the Front design group for the PS 2009 collection. They were completely new and so we made this armchair and lamp. The desire was to make a turned wooden lamp, but you also have to be able to distort it, express it with sound.
“I felt that it would be very difficult to do. With my colleague in lighting at the time, I went to Hungary to this factory that was making our lamps. It was all metal tubes that they were making, so we were a little hesitant if they could solve this. But they made a mock-up according to the designers’ drawings. So we went there to check, and it was looking there, and it was standing there. table lamp where the wooden beads were going in a circle and then up, like a snake.”
“What we didn’t know was that next to the lamp factory there was this factory that was making turned wooden beads, little individual pieces that we put together. None of us knew that. It was just quiet. So they were turning these wooden beads, and the lamp factory was putting them in metal tubes, like in a necklace. They had a little fun doing business.”
PS Sinka Cabinet
“I have another favorite from that PS 2009 collection, it’s in my hallway PS Sinkaas well as small drawers with a wooden base. Sinka means “way” in Swedish, hence the name describing the construction.
“But the problem we had with this one was that the packing volume was too big. So what we did is that each drawer is a little smaller. So four drawers stack each other. And the other four drawers stack. There’s a little block in the back when you push them, so they stand straight in the front. There’s also a hidden compartment behind the best drawer to put all the stuff in. The top way I have all my keys that I don’t know where they go.
PS Jonsberg instruments
“I have this tool from the PS collection to hold cables (on my Samsung Serif TV) It was a set, Jonsberg instruments and Hella Jongerius. There were four of them in different ceramic techniques. I had all four, but the terracotta one broke, which was unfortunate. (Of course it is. These $39 containers are now on sale used for $1,700 for the complete set.)
“They are inspired by different places, and different techniques are good. I use a large black for the toilet paper in one bathroom. It’s not demeaning the design. It’s just a good design to stand there, and it makes the bathroom look good, and it can fit a toilet roll. So, why would you have something like a bad stick? It’s good for that.”
Pax Clothes
“Pax. I have to mention Pax. I did.” Pax wardrobes in a few rooms, but I’m also a little unique. Like the kitchen, these veneer doors have been sanded and painted by hand by me, just to make it fit my house, in my space. I repaint them sometimes.”
Cracked Pepper Slices
“I have these pepper mills. One for white pepper, one for black pepper. That was also in the PS collection. We did this with Marcus Arvonen. These chili machines are great, and they’ve been around for, like, 20 years too. They are very tall. A smaller version came later, but I like these.
“They have their chips, yes, but this makes them better. It’s age. They’ve been there and they’re used every day. Everything has a little imperfection. You can spend your whole life worrying about it, but there should be imperfections in life. To fix? Then something else needs to be fixed. It just moves. Stop, be proud.”
Where is Billy Bookcase or Kallax?
“I don’t have it Billy in the house now. But there has been! Kallax? I have owned many. Brilliant piece. Very good for vinyl, because that’s when they come out. I listen to a lot of vinyl.”
