Three people have died in a house crash in Sydney’s south west.
Emergency services were called to a house fire on Cornelia Street in Wiley Park at around 9.45pm on Wednesday. The Fire and Rescue Service of NSW (FRNSW) extinguished the fire and found the bodies of three people inside.
The victims have not yet been officially identified. The property sustained extensive damage, police said.
Officers from the Campsie Area Police Command have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. A report will be prepared for the investigation.
While the cause is still under investigation, earlier this month FRNSW issued a safety reminder about “the most dangerous time of year for house fires”.
As of July 15, FRNSW had already attended 480 residential fires this winter and 2025 this year.
FRNSW Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell encouraged residents to use the service free home fire safety tour program which includes smoke alarm inspections.
“You can also take simple steps to keep you and your family safe. For example, check your smoke alarm regularly, keep an eye on it whenever you cook, keep a fire blanket and fire extinguisher in your kitchen, keep flammable materials a meter away from the heater, and don’t overload the electrical panel or electrical outlets,” said Fewtrell.
“Always check electric and heated blankets before turning them on, and look for holes, burn marks, exposed wires or damage to the controller. If anything goes off, turn it off.”
