Welcome to The Logoff: Donald Trump’s $1.8 billion superannuation fund is — maybe — finished.
What is happening? on monday, Axios reported that the Trump administration planned to overthrow “Anti-arms” fund. — nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer money earmarked for Trump to pay whomever he and the treasury board choose, without oversight — amid legal challenges and mounting Republican opposition.
The fund, announced in mid-May, was the product of a “settlement” between Trump and his administration over a $10 billion lawsuit Trump brought against the IRS. A long list of Trump associates, including the rebels of January 6they could stand to receive millions from the fund.
What is the context? On Friday, a federal district judge in Virginia temporarily blocked the Trump fund from disbursing any money or taking any action until at least the end of next week, while another in Florida ordered Trump’s personal attorneys. to justify the solution reached by the Department of Justiceand increase the possibility that it may be a fraud.
what is the main picture? It is less clear what the true nature of the treasure is, as written; as one source told Axios on Monday, “The president likes the package. … So there’s nothing end-to-end.” Other journalists have pointed out that the court decision which the Department of Justice has promised to obey is only temporary.
But the fund has also been toxic to some Republican senators whose votes Trump needs to advance a second reconciliation bill, enough to worry about the fund. delayed votes originally scheduled last month.
