US President Donald Trump said on Friday he had ordered the military to be ready to attack Iran if the Iranian government executed or attempted to assassinate the president.
“1000 missiles are closed and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, and thousands more will immediately follow, if the Government of Iran takes action against its threat, expressed in many corners of the World, to kill, or attempt to kill, the Retired President of the United States of America,” he said in the press.
“The orders have already been given, and the United States Army is ready, willing, and able, within a year, by extension, to completely annihilate and destroy all areas of Iran.”
Trump’s threats came after the funeral of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei saw open calls for his assassination.
At the same time, senior US officials urged Iran to issue a public statement saying that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that ships passing through the vital strait will no longer be attacked.
