Trump threatens Netanyahu with withdrawal of support – Axios – RT World News

The US president reportedly asked the Israeli leader not to start a full-scale war with Iran again

US President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw support for Israel during a phone call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Axios reported Monday.

Trump has had several intense conversations by phone with the Israeli leader after Iran announced last week that it was suspending talks with the United States due to Israel’s frequent attacks in Lebanon.

Iran’s conditions for the peace agreement include a cessation of hostilities “All the way,” including Lebanon, where nearly 3,700 people have been killed since early March, when Israel resumed attacks in response to Hezbollah attacks.

Israel and Iran exchanged strikes on Sunday and Monday for the first time since a ceasefire was reached in April, following an Israeli strike in Beirut.

Axios reported Monday that Trump said in a phone interview with the station that he had warned Netanyahu about that “If he goes back to war with Iran, he may find himself fighting alone.” Trump previously confirmed reports that he called Netanyahu “f**king mad” during the initial negotiations.

BBC North America editor Sarah Smith said Trump told her by phone on Monday that he had encouraged the Israeli leader “use your mind” adding that he was “very close to signing a very strong contract” with Iran.

Multiple reports said Trump tried to persuade Netanyahu not to retaliate after Iran fired 11 missiles, all of which were intercepted. According to Smith, Trump said Netanyahu told him that the Israeli missiles “We were already on our way” when they talk.

Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said the attacks on Lebanon and the naval blockade of Iranian ports made the United States and Israel legitimate targets.

“They are not willing to stop the war or believe in negotiations,” he wrote on X on Sunday.

Iran, along with some of Trump’s domestic critics, has accused the US president of launching an all-out war at Israel’s behest. Trump, however, has claimed that he is “shooting” and he recently said that Israel would have no choice but to accept any terms he agreed with Iran.
