US President Donald Trump has vowed to strike Iran “too hard” after Tehran fired ballistic missiles at US forces in Jordan and a drone reportedly shot down a US-owned liquefied natural gas tanker in Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta.
British maritime security firm Ambrey said a drone had hit the US-owned ship. Cold Energosand started a fire that spread to a nearby Greek-owned ship GasLog Salem. Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry confirmed that fires broke out on two ships but did not specify their cause. No injuries were reported.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack, and neither Ambrey nor Egyptian authorities publicly linked it to Iran.

Trump said he had been briefed on the incident, and described it as “a little more” before signaling that US retaliation against Tehran is imminent.
“We will be hitting them hard because it is our turn to hit them,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday. “They know it’s coming. They’re asking us not to do it.”
“We will beat them hard.”

Trump had issued a more explicit threat earlier in the day after Iran fired several ballistic missiles at US forces in Jordan.
“We’re going to beat the f***ing s**t out of them,” Trump is reported he told Fox News, adding: “We’re going to be hitting them hard. They’re going to get beat.”
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that its Air Force targeted a US air base and what it described as CENTCOM headquarters in Jordan. The US Central Command called the test “surprise attack” and claimed that all incoming missiles have been intercepted.
Trump said Iran had fired five missiles and acknowledged that US Patriot systems destroyed the missiles. “It’s our turn,” He said, while suggesting that diplomatic talks could resume after threats of retaliation.
The new hostilities came days after Trump halted a 13-night US bombing campaign to allow talks with Tehran to continue. The volatile ceasefire has since unraveled, with the US tightening its sanctions against Iranian ports and threatening to seize Iranian funds held abroad – a move Tehran considers a clear violation of the deal reached so far.
