Brian Barrett: Better and brighter.
Leah Feiger: Yes. And so I’m like, no, no, no, this is not just about technology. This is about showing exactly who Trump’s allies are and being able to put himself in front of the country and a leader he hasn’t spent much time with lately.
Zoe Schiffer: Since we’re still talking about the people he’s going with in China, what do we know about why Jensen Huang was left off the list and then added back at the last minute? Because though mine when I saw it was, oh, this is about export controls and they think it’s going to be kind of weird and difficult to have him on the trip. But then it’s clear now he’s on a journey.
Leah Feiger: So somebody who I can’t name, somebody said to me, “Oh, I think the President might have forgotten him,” and I laughed.
Zoe Schiffer: Oh, you remember Brett Ratner and you forgot?
Leah Feiger: No, I was like, “This is not true.” It’s not true at all until I was like, “I’m sorry, do you expect me to entertain you right now?”
Zoe Schiffer: I would totally buy that Trump forgot this guy, but I’m like, “Trump has other people around him.”
Leah Feiger: This team did not forget this man.
Zoe Schiffer: Yes, please.
Leah Feiger: No, there is no way in the world. I was like, “Uh-huh. Yes, yes, yes. Keep it moving.” And obviously guys, we have to talk about Musk of all things. I know that Elon has been showing off at various events close to the White House, but this feels like a big time for him to be on the international stage again with Trump.
Zoe Schiffer: Did you know that? Elon Musk’s mother is like a low-profile celebrity in China?
Brian Barrett: Maye Muskinternational model, Maye Musk.
Leah Feiger: Wait, new information. Say more.
Zoe Schiffer: People are struggling with him there.
Leah Feiger: What?
Zoe Schiffer: Just a little fun fact.
Brian Barrett: I also want to take some time so that I don’t leave Maye Musk. We can talk and talk about Maye Musk all day. About a year ago when the Pentagon introduced Musk to a war conference about what would happen if the United States went to war. Do we remember this?
Leah Feiger: me.
Zoe Schiffer: Oh, my God, I completely forgot about this. Yes.
Brian Barrett: The Pentagon invited Musk to look at what the war plans would be like if we went to war with China over Taiwan and that was messed up before we went. This was a New York Times report, but we’ve come a long way and it’s not far. I don’t know. If I were China, I don’t think I would want to see Musk anywhere near this alliance. And if I’m Musk, I feel good about the level of influence I have now. Again, then maybe I’ll have a chance to look at those battle plans again. Maybe I can sweet talk Pete Hegseth.
