Andrew Giuliani, who is in charge of the White House’s World Cup task force, told the BBC that “while I can’t get into the nitty gritty (derogatory statements) about it, I can tell you it was the right decision by Customs and Border Patrol and I support that decision.”
FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino, have been he endured great criticism over the rejection of the referee, with the results of the competition covering much of the week leading up to the competition and sharply highlighting the border policies of the administration of US President Donald Trump.
In a statement, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said: “Omar Artan is an excellent young but already experienced referee, who has proven himself at the highest level of the Confederation of African Football competitions. Football is made to unite people, and UEFA wants to show its respect for Omar and his excellent leadership skills, which earned him such a nomination.”
