Song Yadong got the win he and his fans wanted in Macau on Saturday, handing Deiveson Figueiredo their bantamweight bout on UFC Fight Night.
The Chinese fighter entered the contest on the back of a disappointing loss to Sean O’Malley, but put himself right in the title conversation with an impressive performance against the former world featherweight champion.
After testing each other’s strengths and weaknesses in the cage, Song began to move forward, and as Figueiredo shot for a takedown after a calf kick, Song began to knife and squeeze as the second round drew to a close.
“I’m very proud to get the guillotine,” the 28-year-old, who is ranked fifth in the division, said. “I’ve done it before for fun, but never in a fight.
“I didn’t expect him to hit so fast. I didn’t have full power, I turned it a little bit, he hit and I won.”

Song’s win salvaged an otherwise miserable night for the home crowd at the Galaxy Arena, with the local favorites finishing second best.
