UFC White House fortress: Why Trump is hosting a fight for his birthday

Welcome to The Logoff: President Donald Trump’s Final Fight Championship takeover at the White House is fast approaching — and it’s every bit as dramatic as you’d expect.

What’s going on? This week, a new construction project has been gaining momentum on the White House campus. It’s not Trump’s East Wing lobby – that’s it hold on for now – but a octagonal fighting castle on the South Lawn, surrounded by starry arches.

The event appears to be part of “Independence 250,” America’s 250th anniversary, but the date is not confirmed: The fight — booked by Trump’s longtime friend, UFC president Dana White — is scheduled for June 14, Trump’s 80th birthday. Trump himself is a devoted fan of the often brutal sport.

Who pays for it? Allegedly, it’s all UFC – in the amount of 60 million dollars. No event tickets will be sold directly, but as reported by BBC Sport“guest packages” for the event can cost up to $1.5 million each. (The rest of the tickets will go to US carriers, although they will have to pay their own way – and reportedly taking into account height and weight levels to attend.)
