US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has died at the age of 71, according to his official account on X.
Graham passed away on Saturday evening “from a short and sudden illness,” the statement, published by the senator’s office on Sunday, read.
“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this very difficult time,” it added.
Emergency services responded to the call “cardiac arrest” at Graham’s Capitol Hill residence on Saturday night, NBC reported after obtaining the audio of a police scanner. The broadcaster also said that he had seen pictures of paramedics carrying a man on a stretcher from the senator’s house to an ambulance.
