The FIFA World Cup 2026 The finals began Sunday evening at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, for Argentina and Spain fighting for the championship title. This year’s competition was a little different though, and FIFA making its first halftime show in the 96-year history of the competition.
Hosted by Chris Martin of Coldplay, the FIFA World Cup halftime show was an 11-minute group of musicians from around the world, incl Shakira, BTS, Justin Bieberand Burna Boy. The Muppets also played an important rendition of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” with the New York Philharmonic orchestra.
Madonna opened the show with the songs “Music” and “Danceteria,” while Brazilian soccer legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho appeared alongside her. BTS’s K-pop thing made a reduced version of their English hit “Dynamite.” Ted Lasso actors Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt then made cameos, respectively playing the main character and Coach Beard from the feel-good football series, giving Justin Bieber a pep talk before he slowed down for an acoustic performance of “Everything Hallelujah.”

Shakira and Burna Boy followed with the 2026 FIFA World Cup official song “Dai Dai,” which brought a big change of mood, before Coldplay, the Muppets, and the PS22 Chorus children’s choir closed the halftime show with a rendition of the band’s new single “We Dance.”

Unfortunately, despite the star-studded lineup, online commentary for the first ever FIFA World Cup halftime show they were significantly weakened. On the plus side, it’s an important comment for organizers to consider when putting together the next World Cup tournament in 2030.
