The President of the United States has abruptly ended a sit-down with Kristen Welker after the host of ‘Meet the Press’ challenged her allegations of election fraud.
US President Donald Trump has left an interview with ‘Meet the Press’ host Kristen Welker after a heated exchange about her allegations of election fraud.
“You are wrong, the media is crooked and ‘Meet the Journalists’ is wrong,“Before ending the session with the NBC News anchor on Saturday, Trump also attacked several other media outlets, including ABC, CBS and CNN, describing them as “one-sided false networks.”
The interview took a tense turn after Trump claimed that the California primary election earlier this week was rigged. He gave an example of the long process of counting votes in the state, suggesting that the vote has been “stolen” eliminate Republican candidates.
Unlike many other US states, California uses a so-called ‘runoff primary,’ where candidates from all parties compete for the same number of votes to advance to the general election.
Welker noted that “that’s how they count votes in California,” adding that local leaders have admitted that the process is “slowly.” Trump responded by blaming NBC and other media outlets “playing right into their hands with this c**p,” and told Welker that he was “Pervert or you are stupid.”
“I’m sorry. Let’s leave it at that because I’ve had enough. Thanks honey. Have a good time,” the president said, appearing to take out his microphone.
Welker’s attempts to talk Trump out of it were futile, with the president muttering: “I sat with you in the rain for an hour.”
“I’ve given you enough time. You should straighten out your media, because you know what – a country can never be great with a dishonest media,” Trump said before leaving.
Trump has a history of troubled relations with the press, frequently using several derogatory terms when referring to reporters. In addition to the liberal-leaning media, the president has recently criticized several conservative journalists. That includes the popular broadcaster Tucker Carlson, who criticized Trump’s war on Iran.
